The ½ argentino or 2½ peso coin was minted by Argentina from 1881 to 1884. It was equal to 2.5 Argentine pesos oro sellado.
The coin was composed of .900 fine gold, weighed 4.03 grams, and measured 19.3 millimeters in diameter. It was designed by French sculptor, Eugène André Oudiné. Depicted on the obverse is Liberty, surrounded by the value (inscribed as ½ ARGENTINO and 2½ PESOS) and two legends, one reading "LIBERTAD", the other reading "DOSFINO". Displayed on the reverse was the coat of arms of Argentina, with the state title (REPUBLICA ARGENTINA) inscribed above, and the year of minting below. Only 421 of these coins were produced.
