Introduction[]
Fair use, is, in a nutshell, the use of copyrighted works in a reduced form without obtaining permission from the copyright holder. Though this action is legal, it has its limitations here on Currency Wiki.
Locations of fair use material[]
The following are places where fair use material may be obtained from:
- Yourself. Certain currency designs are copyrighted. For more information, see here.
- The website of a national bank or mint.
- Book covers
- Wikipedia (not always)
Fair use material taken from the following is prohibited:
- Advertisements
- Anywhere
- Copyrighted publications
- Flickr (if the image is copyrighted)
- Media hosting sites (if the image is copyrighted)
- Social networking sites
- Television shows/commercials
- Video/online games
Important information[]
- The only exception to the list of prohibited locations is when using the logo of an organization or website in an article.
- If you would like to request permission to allow a certain fair use image that does not follow the guidelines above, see here.
- Fair use images, unless permitted, should not be added to templates.
