The following is Currency Wiki's guidelines about the use of fair use material.

Introduction[]

Fair use, is, in a nutshell, the use of copyrighted works in a reduced form without obtaining permission from the copyright holder. Though this action is legal, it has its limitations here on Currency Wiki.

Locations of fair use material[]

The following are places where fair use material may be obtained from:

  • Yourself. Certain currency designs are copyrighted. For more information, see here.
  • The website of a national bank or mint.
  • Book covers
  • Wikipedia (not always)

Fair use material taken from the following is prohibited:

  • Advertisements
  • Anywhere
  • Copyrighted publications
  • Flickr (if the image is copyrighted)
  • Media hosting sites (if the image is copyrighted)
  • Social networking sites
  • Television shows/commercials
  • Video/online games

Important information[]

  • The only exception to the list of prohibited locations is when using the logo of an organization or website in an article.
  • If you would like to request permission to allow a certain fair use image that does not follow the guidelines above, see here.
  • Fair use images, unless permitted, should not be added to templates.
