Erik Lennart Karlsson was a Swedish banker active in Southern Africa during the 1980s and early 1990s. Beforehand, he worked as a Deputy Director at the Sveriges Riksbank.

Biography

Karlsson was originally a Deputy Director at the Sveriges Riksbank. During this time working for Sweden's Central Bank, he became involved with the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. Karlsson was eventually commissioned by Sida to assist Lesotho in developing a monetary system, and became the third governor of its central bank on November 9, 1985, serving until November 18, 1988 before resigning. Shortly after, Karlsson became involved with SWAPO, a movement towards Namibia gaining independence from South Africa. He was appointed as Deputy Governor of the Bank of Namibia in 1990, after the country had gained independence, and in November 1992, became the second Governor. He resigned a year later in 1993, and left Namibia in 1994. Karlsson died some time prior to July 16, 2010.
