Biography[]

A Cypriot 2 euro coin
Maell was born in Columbus, Ohio, where he attended the Columbus College of Art and Design and subsequently received his Bachelor of Fine Arts and double major in Fine Arts and Illustration. Following his education, Maell has made a career producing various types of art, including fashion illustrations, logo design, website designs, book and magazine illustrations, et cetera. His work with fashion eventually led him to a four year occupation as a visual consultant for Victoria's Secret. Maell has additionally been employed by clients such as DC Comics, Lucasfilm, Marvel Comics, the Topps Company, Universal Studios, and the Walt Disney Company.
In 2005 the Central Bank of Cyprus initiated a design competition to determine the national side of the country's euro coinage. However, the bank gave the stipulation that the designs of mouflons, the Kyrenia ship, and Idol of Pomos be used, and that the coins should include the name of Cyprus in Greek and Turkish. Maell collaborated with Tatiana Soteropoulos for the contest, and their designs were ultimately chosen for the Cypriot euros. These coins officially began to circulate in 2008, when Cyprus joined the eurozone.
