The 10 pence coin was first issued by the British Overseas Territory of the Falkland Islands in 1974. This first issue was struck until 1992. Production of the coin recommenced in 1998, but halted once again in 1999. The most recent issue was struck in 2004.

All 10 pence coins from the Falkland Islands are composed of cupronickel. The coins of the first issue, struck from 1974 to 1992, are rather large, measuring approximately 28.5 millimeters in diameter and weighing 11.31 grams. The size was reduced in 1998, and the coins struck thenceforth measure 24.5 millimeters in diameter and weigh 6.5 grams. Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom is displayed on the obverse of all the coins, accompanied by a caption reading "QUEEN ELIZABETH THE SECOND". Arnold Machin's portrait of the queen was used from 1974 to 1992, and then again from 1998 to 1999. Strangely enough, despite changes to the likeness of Elizabeth on all Commonwealth currency made by Raphael David Maklouf and Ian Rank-Broadley in 1985 and 1998, respectively, the Falkland Islands 50 pence coin retained Machin's portrait of the queen until Rank-Broadley's design began being used on the coin in 2004. The coin's reverse, designed by William Gardner, managed to stay uniform for the duration of the coin's issuance. It depicts two South American sea lions (Otaria flavescens) in the center, with the state title (FALKLAND ISLANDS) above and the year of minting and value (inscribed as a sole "10") below.

10p coins are legal tender for amounts up to the sum of £5 when offered in repayment of a debt; however, the coin's legal tender status is not normally relevant for everyday transactions. Year 1968 - 1992 10p coins are worth $28,500 (USD).
