The first 10 dollar banknote was printed by the Bank of Namibia in 1993. A second note bearing a different design was issued on May 15, 2012.

History[]

The first Namibian 10 dollar note was first issued in 1993, and was subsequently printed in 2001, 2007, and 2009. It was predominantly blue in color and measured 128 millimeters in width by 70 millimeters in height. Former Namaqua chief, Hendrik Witbooi, the Tintenpalast, and the coat of arms of Namibia were displayed on the note's obverse, while two springboks and the Namibian flag were printed on the reverse.

On May 15, 2012, the Bank of Namibia introduced a second series of banknotes, which included a redesigned 10 dollar note. It retains the original color of the first note, and is relatively the same size (129 × 70 mm) as the previous issue. Former Namibian president, Sam Nujoma is depicted on the note's obverse along with the Tintenpalast. Three springboks are displayed on the note's reverse, with the Namibian coat of arms floating above, and the head of a springbok to the right. For security, the 2012 issue is equipped with glossy printing, watermarks, color-changing features, raised print, a relief mark, and a security thread. All of the 2012 notes bear the signature of the current governor of the Bank of Namibia, Ipumbu Shiimi.
