The 2000 lira banknote has been issued by the IPZS, from 1973 to 2002.
First Series (Galileo Galilei)[]
The first series was issued from 1973 to 1983; it features Galileo Galilei, the nominal value, the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the Cathedral; its theme is the observation of the sky.
On the reverse, the Arcetri Observatory and radio waves are depicted.
Second Series (Guglielmo Marconi)[]
The second series was issued from 1990 to 1992; it features Guglielmo Marconi and the nominal value.
On the reverse, Elettra (Guglielmo's personal boat), radio antennae and a radio device are portrayed.
The banknote features a security thread and a watermark, depicting Marconi and the logo of the Bank of Italy.
