Italian States is a term used in a variety of Krause-based numismatic contexts that refers to the numerous sovereign states in and around the Italian Peninsula before the unification of Italy in 1862.

Currency[]

Many of the Italian states issued their own currencies, which were typically denominated in lire, scudos, and soldi. Some states, such as the Papal State of Avignon used francs, a concept adopted as a result of French influence.
