The ⅔ thaler coin was minted by the Principality of Lippe from 1710 to 1717, 1719 to 1722, 1765, and 1769 during the reigns of Frederick Adolphus, Simon Henry Adolph, and Simon August.
History[]
Coins of Frederick Adolphus[]
During the reign of Count Frederick Adolphus, two ⅔ thaler coins were introduced. The first was minted during 1710, and only 2230 were ever produced. A year later, in 1711, a slightly altered coin was also introduced. This coin was produced until 1717, and had a total mintage of at least 33,257. Displayed on the obverse of both[citation needed] coins was a portrait of Frederick Adolphus circled by the legend, "FRID·ADOLPH·COM·&·NOB·D·LIPP·". Shown on the reverse of the 1710 coin was a coat of arms with the value and year. On the 1711 coin was a coat of arms and shield with five helmets above, along with the value and year of minting.
Coins of Simon Henry Adolph[]
In 1719, a year after Simon Henry Adolph became count of Lippe-Detmold, another ⅔ thaler coin was introduced. Like the previous coin, it was composed of silver. On the obverse of this coin was a portrait of Simon Henry Adolph, which was surrounded by the legend, "SIMON·HENRICH·ADOLPH·C·ET·N·D·LIPP·". Displayed on the reverse was a coat of arms and shield with five helmets above, along with the value and year of minting. During 1722, a number of pattern coins composed of copper were minted, but never put into circulation. A total of 541 of the silver coins were minted from 1719 to 1722.
Coins of Simon August[]
During the reign of Count Simon August, two new ⅔ thaler coins were introduced. Both were composed of silver. The first was minted in 1765, while its successor was minted during 1769. Displayed on the obverse of both[citation needed] coins was an image of Simon August, surrounded by an inscription. Shown on the reverse was a crowned coat of arms within a cartouche with the value and year of minting.
