The 2 mark coin was issued by the Principality of Lippe (Lippe-Detmold) in 1906, during the reign of Prince Leopold IV.

It has the same composition and measurements as every standard 2 mark coin issued by the states of the German Empire at the time, being composed of .900 fine silver, weighing 11.111 grams, and measuring 28 millimeters in diameter and 2 millimeters thick. A left-facing effigy of Prince Leopold IV is displayed in the center of the obverse, partially encircled by a caption reading "LEOPOLD IV FÜRST ZUR LIPPE". Directly underneath the likeness of the prince is an "A" mint mark, which indicates the coin was struck at the mint in Berlin. The Reichsadler of the German Empire is featured on the reverse, accompanied by the state title of the Second Reich (DEUTSCHES REICH), the coin's value, and the year. A total of 21,100 examples were produced, 1,100 of which were struck in proof quality.
