Weimar Republic 50 pfennig

A 50 pfennig coin from 1922.

Oppenheim was born in Coburg, Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in 1879. He studied in London from 1899 to 1906, and eventually moved to Berlin, where he started his work as a graphic artist in 1910. Oppenheim often signed his work with "LO", and he worked for clients such as AES, the Reichsbahn, Persil, and Adrena. He eventually began to work for the type foundry Berthold, creating a handful of significant and widespread typefaces such as Lo-Type and Fanfare. His skills eventually became recognized by the Berlin Mint, and in collaboration with Reinhard Kullrich, he designed the 50 pfennig coin issued by the Weimar Republic from 1919 to 1922. He died in 1936 at the age of 57 in Berlin.
