The 1 ban coin is a circulation piece that was issued from 1993 to 2006 by the Republic of Moldova. It was produced at the Monetăria Statului (State Mint) of Romania and is distributed by the National Bank of Moldova. Although minting of the coin has ceased due to its low face value of 0.01 lei, it still holds the status of legal tender and continues to be used in circulation, albeit to a limited degree.

The coin is composed of pure aluminum and has a mass of 0.67 grams, a diameter of 14.5 millimeters, and a thickness of approximately 1.7 millimeters. It has a plain edge and coin alignment, and like most coins, is round in shape. Displayed in the center of the obverse, designed by Romanian artist Constantin Dumitrescu, is the coat of arms of Moldova – which consists of an eagle with a shield on its breast bearing an aurochs (†Bos taurus primigenius) head, an eight-pointed star representing the sun, a five-petaled flower, and the crescent moon of Moldavia. In the eagle's dexter talon is an olive branch, in its sinister is a scepter, and in its beak is an Orthodox cross. Underneath the depiction of the coat of arms, along the rim of the coin, is a single oak (Quercus) branch. The Romanian state title of Moldova – "REPUBLICA MOLDOVA" (English: "Republic of Moldova") – is inscribed along the remaining rim of the piece, the first word arched around the left side of the obverse and the second curved along the right periphery. The reverse, also designed by Constantin Dumitrescu, features the value "1 BAN" in the center, with the numeral and word printed on separate lines and the former being written in a much larger font than the latter. The date of minting is inscribed near the center of the reverse, its first two digits divided from the final two by the large "1". An "M" standing for "Moldova" is superimposed over a square diamond at the bottom of the piece, and on coins made from 1993 to 2000, the "C.D." privy mark of the artist is engraved diagonally at the coin's lower right periphery.

The total mintage of the Moldovan 1 ban coin is currently unknown. However, pieces in all grades and of all dates are relatively common and generally demand small prices from collectors.
