This article is about the proposed currency of Mozambique. For the current currency of the country, see here.

The Mozambican metica was a proposed currency of Mozambique intended to replace the escudo. It was divided into 100 centimos. Coins were minted in 1975 in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, and 50 centimos and 1 and meticas. Banknotes denominated as 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 meticas were printed on June 25, 1976. However, these were never put into circulation and the escudo continued to circulate until 1980, when it was replaced by the metical.
