The 500,000 lei banknote was issued by Romania during 2000, and remained in circulation until January 1, 2007. It was equal to 500,000 lei.
The note was 165 millimeters in width by 76 millimeters in height. The predominant color of the note was yellow. The obverse featured Romanian engineer, Aurel Vlaicu, along with edelweiss, the value of the note, and the year of printing. The reverse displayed the Vlaicu II airplane and an eagle. Both sides were designed by the National Bank of Romania. For security, the note was printed on polymer paper and has a see-through window.
The modern 50 lei note uses practically the same design as the 500,000 lei note.
