The 12,000 shilling coin is a commemorative coin that was issued by the Republic of Uganda in 2001. With a face value equal to 12,000 shillings, it is the second highest denominated Ugandan coin minted, seconded only by the 20,000 shilling pieces of 2006.

The coin is composed of .9999 fine gold and has a mass of 6.2206 grams and a diameter of 22 millimeters. It has a reeded edge, and like most coins, is round in shape. Raphael David Maklouf's right-facing bust of Elizabeth II (1926–), the sovereign of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth realm, which previously included Uganda, is present in the middle of the coin's obverse. The "RDM" initials of the artist are engraved near the bust truncation. Above the image of the queen is a small coat of arms of Uganda — consisting of an escutcheon featuring waves, the sun, and a traditional drum. This escutcheon is supported by an Ugandan kob (Kobus kob thomasi) and a Crested Crane (Balearica pavonina gibberifrons). Behind the shield are two spears and below the entire illustration is the motto "FOR GOD AND MY COUNTRY" printed on a scroll. Arched around the coin's rim above the arms is the text "BANK OF UGANDA", and curved around the periphery below the likeness of Queen Elizabeth is the value "12000 SHILLINGS". A depiction of the 1996 "Spirit of the Mountain" illusion by Swiss artist Sandro del Prete (1937–) is featured in the center of the reverse. The illusion may at first glance appear to be the face of an old man, but it actually shows a scene with an individual sitting near a tree and tree stump in a wooded area by two cottages. The signature of Sandro del Prete is shown to the left of the illusion. Inscribed above the illustration is the word "ILLUSION", and engraved below the depiction is the year of minting.

The coin was only offered in proof quality.
